I love regency romances! I've read a few of this author's books and liked them. This book was no exception. The premise was mildly intriguing - young, penniless debutante falls in love with rich tradesman who wants to make her his mistress. The heroine, Miss Annabelle Peyton, was compelling - beautiful and smart, if sometimes a bit ruthless. The hero, Simon Hunt, was also compelling - handsome and powerful, also sometimes a bit ruthless. They had great chemistry. The storyline was entertaining. I like the author's writing style. I'm looking forward to reading Lillian & Westcliff's story in book two!
I read this in print years ago and have been purchasing my "keepers" on Kindle, reading this series again was great and there was an additional book!Four young ladies who are the season's wallflowers have all been sitting in the same area for wallflowers for most of the season, without acknowledging each other. After all, they are all trying for the same beaus, so why befriend an enemy. But one evening, they start talking and before the evening is over they agree to help each other find the perfect husband. The start with the oldest and most difficult wallflower, Annabelle Peyton, she has no dowry and her family is hanging on in the hope that her beauty will attract and offer. Unfortunately, the men who are looking for wives know what the situation is and, their offers will not be for matrimony. But with the help of her "new friends" Annabelle may just have a chance. If she just changes her perspective.
I just loved "Secrets of a Summer Night" I had read it a long time ago and remembered that I liked it, but this time around I just loved it I know I'm repeating what I just said but it just made me want to sigh when I finished it. I thought both Simon and Annabelle are wonderful! She's not only beautiful but smart and funny and she loves her family very much so she knows that she can't just seat and wait to see if her life turns out well, she has to go and try to make it , thankfully for her things don't go exactly the way she planned because of Simon ahh there is just so much chemistry between them and it's great to see the way she fights against it but he just does not give up. I loved Simon as a Hero and that's saying a lot because I'm a snob I'm embarrassed to say when it comes to these kinds of books I always want the heroine to end up with somebody with a title the higher the title the better, but Simon is so great he does not have any hang ups because he comes from the working class he is proud of who he is and what he has accomplished as he should be, he is a little bit rough around the edges but very sexy and sure of himself and he wants Annabelle and he does not give up until he gets her I think he is so sweet in a grumpy ruff kind of way.Not only the main characters are wonderful but the secondary ones are very interesting too so it's great to know that each of the friends has her own book. When I read historical romances with this particular theme of the impoverished family without a father I'm just so happy that I live in this time period and not theirs because it's scary to think the lack of options women had and the way men would take advantage of them. It's so easy to criticize the decisions that some times women had to make but it must have been awful to be in a society that did not let women be educated and that if you actually worked they would look down on you.I highly recommend this book it's romantic, steamy, funny and much much more.
I really enjoyed this book. The plot was interesting and engaging and the pacing was just right.I really liked Annabelle and Simon both. They were very well matched and it was wonderful to see each of their characters and their relationship develop and blossom. I hope they make an appearance in the rest of the books in the series. The wallflowers were all delightful and brought in such an element of fun. I look forward to reading Evie's, Lillian's and Daisy's stories. The villain was truly reprehensible and my heart broke for Annabelle's mother. I hope we find out in a later book that she is able to find some peace and happiness. If you want to read a book that keeps you engaged through the entire story, has characters that are so well-written that you really care about what happens to them and that can also make you laugh, cry and swoon, this book fits the bill.
I found Lisa Kleypas because of A Wallflower Christmas. I read the book and loved it, not knowing it was part of a bigger series. Now I'm reading them, and loving it.This story focuses on Annabelle and Simon Hunt. These two are very different, but since Simon is a stubborn man who knows how to get his way, and is very attracted to Annabelle, their paths cross. A lot. And it's at turns funny and so sweet. Both have some prejudices, but especially Annabelle, and both get plenty of time to overcome these issues. In the meantime, their interactions are explosive and fun, with plenty of witty banter and heat. I liked Annabelle, but I really liked Simon. This story begins the friendship of the wallflowers and gives an entertaining and consuming romance. The friendship aspects were done well, and I liked all of the romance aspects, up until near the end. The end dragged a little as the two learned to live with another, with plenty of heat, but that was all. Otherwise the story flowed well and was written superbly. I definitely recommend it!
